  1. Ignition — Best Overall, Biggest Poker Site Pros Accepts players from 46 US states Anonymous tables available Lots of big-money tournaments Can play up to 15 tables at once Cons Not available in the UK Available in 46 states, Ignition has the most American players you'll find anywhere. It's the best place to start if you're looking to dip your toe into online action. The site works hard to make the games fun for amateurs rather than a feeding ground for professionals. That includes hosting anonymous tables that ban tracking software and hide user names. Pros can still make a living here. You can play up to 15 ring games simultaneously, and they have a ton of big-money tournaments. You'll pay to enjoy all these features, though, as Ignition has a fairly high rake at around 4.35% on average. That's not insurmountable, but it is more than you'll find at many other sites. 2. Texas Hold'em Poker

Image
Hold'em (or Texas Hold'em) is a poker game where each player receives two cards as his initial hand. There is a round of betting after these cards have been dealt. Then three board cards are turned simultaneously (which is called "the flop") and are community cards available to all players. Another round of betting takes place. The next two board cards are turned one at a time with a round of betting after each one. A player may use all of the board cards - this is called "playing the board". Hold'em uses a flat disc called a Dealer Button to indicate the player, who in theory, deals the cards for that pot. The Button (player with the Dealer Button) is last to receive cards on the initial deal and has the right of last-action on all betting rounds, except the first. On the first round o...

Basic Hold 'Em Strategy

Image
Now's the time to reacquaint yourself with Strategy for Beginners under Antes, Blinds and Betting. As we're learning, poker is more than a card game - it's a game of knowledge, skill, strategy and a little luck. We're learning that poker is about making good betting decisions and making good decisions about the hands you play (and don't play). The more advanced a player gets, the more they begin to play the player and less the cards they're dealt. Advanced players know good starting hands. If you've ever watched poker live or on television, it can be hard for a novice to figure out why a player stayed in the hand at all. It goes back to the other variables of poker that determine strategy - position, starting hand, pot odds, outs, skill level and more. But as a beginner learning Hold 'Em, knowing which starting hands are better than others and understanding the odds of making a winning hand from those starter cards is crucial. We know position - where ...

THE HISTORY OF TEXAS HOLD'EM

Image
THE HISTORY OF TEXAS HOLD'EM Texas hold 'em or Texas holdem is the most popular of community card poker games and is the most prevalent poker variant that is played in casinos in the United States. Its no-limit form is used in the main event of the World Series of Poker (WSP). It also happens to be the main game in the World Poker Tour (WPT) that hosts international poker tournaments around the globe. Here is a brief glimpse into the history of the game. The game quickly spread all throughout Texas but did not break the borders of the state until 1967 when Doyle Brunson, Amarillo Slim, and Crandell Addington took the game to Vegas. In the beginning those who wanted to try out the new poker variation had to go to the Golden nugget to get their turn. Because of its location and decor, this poker room did not receive many high rollers, and as a result, professional players looked for a more high class establishment to play. The game remained in the background until a game was pla...
